Further to my recent attack on the veracity of Wikipedia with regard to the article on Karl Baedeker, I have (with some prompting) had a further look at it and it is of course absolutely full of garbage. It needs to be edited, and I think we, dear readers, will have to do that as a joint exercise.

But for a start, let's have a Christmas mystery: who was Dr Frederick W. Baedeker? He was a missionary, and a member of the Plymouth Brethren - but he was certainly not Karl's brother; nor directly related to him so far as I can work out. But which branch of the Baedeker family did he belong to?
