A question concerning Canada

3 Jan 2012

A site visitor interested in Canadiana has e-mailed a question, which you may be able to help with. He has found a quotation, said to be from Baedeker's Canada, which states that a certain cliff in Canada was
"defaced with the staring advertisement of a Quebec tradesman, whom, it is hoped, all right-minded tourists will on this account religiously boycott."

Can anybody (a) confirm that this is indeed from Canada 1 (1894) (or maybe a later edition), and (b) provide the complete sentence (and maybe also the context)?

I would be much obliged!
