Stats at 24,000

3 Feb 2012

We have now passed 24,000 records of completed sales from eBay and other sites in the BDKR database. So, as per well-established BDKR tradition, here are the vital statistics, with changes since 23,000 sales:

The 24,006 sales have resulted from 48,148 auctions started, so the success ratio (i.e., auctions resulting in a sale) is 49.86%, still trending downwards. The number of successful auctions per month continues to fall, and is now at 264.6, from 271.1 after 23,000 sales.

There are 1050 different editions and variants listed separately at BDKR.com. Of those 960 have appeared in at least one successful sale, no change since last time. Of the 960 editions seen, 59 (64) have appeared once only.

The most sold edition is, as before, Great Britain 7 (1910) with 197 sales (187 last time). Generalgouvernment remains the most sold German edition and stands at 184 sales (last time 174). The best-selling French edition is as before Sud-Est de la France 9 (1910), now on 82 sales (81 last time). Of the 24,006 books, 10,553 (43.9%) were in German, 10,266 (42.8%) in English and 3187 (13.3%) in French - again within 0.1% the same as last time. So it remains a steady rule, as it has from inception, that out of seven sold books, three are in German, three in English and one in French.

The total sale price for the books was €781,309.28, giving an average price of €32.55, which continues the now very slowly falling trend. If all the books had gone for their BDKR guideline price, the total sales would have been €1,996,345, so the ratio is down to 39.1% from the previous 39.5%.

The average number of bids per sold book is now 5.1, as before. As ever, just treat these stats as a bit of fun - my statistics training is non-existent. The stats also appear in shortened form every day on the stats page. If you'd like some other data, please feel free to ask!
