27,000 sales - the low-down

27 Aug 2013

So, another thousand sales have flowed under the virtual bridge - here are the statistics with changes since 26,000 sales:

We have 27,005 sales, resulting from 57,832 auctions started, so the success ratio (i.e., auctions resulting in a sale) is 46.70%, continuing a strong trend downwards. The number of successful auctions per month also continues to fall, and is now at 246.6, from 253.3 after 26,000 sales.

There are 1050 different editions and variants listed separately at BDKR.com. Of those 965 have appeared in at least one successful sale, which is three more than last time, a notable increase. Of the 965 editions seen, 56 have appeared once only.

The most sold edition is, as before, Great Britain 7 (1910) with 219 sales (213 last time). Generalgouvernment remains the most sold German edition and stands at 201 sales (last time 198). The best-selling French edition is also firmly established, being Sud-Est de la France 9 (1910), on 84 sales (83). Of the 27,005 books, 11,939 (44.2%) were in German, 11,617 (43.0%) in English and 3449 (12.8%) in French. That is pretty much unchanged since last time, so it remains a steady rule, as it has from inception, that out of seven sold books, three are in German, three in English and one in French.

The total sale price for the books was €861,115.82, giving an average price of €31.89, which continues the falling trend. If all the books had gone for their BDKR guideline price, the total sales would have been €2,193,120, so the ratio has dipped even further, to 39.3%.

The average number of bids per sold book is, in fact, I think, 5.5. I may have the calculation wrong on the stats page! As ever, just treat these stats as a bit of fun - my statistics training is non-existent. The stats also appear in shortened form every day on the stats page.
