Two 1850's in one day...

28 Jul 2005

What a day for new Baedeker auctions! There are at the time of writing no less than 134 different editions in auction, which might well be some sort of record (and there are four different copies of Southern Germany 13 (1929), possibly also a record of sorts).

But much more interestingly than that, there is a rare Paris 1 (1855) on offer (though its spine and endpapers have been restored, it seems otherwise quite nice), and also a Bords du Rhin 4 (1859), which seems to have a completely new binding ('cos according to my notes, it should be in Biedermeier boards - better double-check that) but nonetheless represents a rare opportunity to acquire the first edition of this title (it was called Le Rhin de Bâle a Düsseldorf before).
