Rhine editions in German

Baedeker editions covering the Rhine, the Moselle and Bad Bertrich in German. See also editions in English and French.

The first book in the series, Rheinreise, was first published by another dealer, Fr. Röhling. It is therefore not strictly a Baedeker (although Karl Baedeker took over the Röhling business in 1832). The first guidebook published by Baedeker in German is therefore Moselreise 1.

The Moselle joins the Rhine at Coblence - Baedeker's first place of business, so it is not surprising that the first guidebooks should have covered the picturesque valleys of these two rivers.

Bad Bertrich is a small spa town in the Eifel range, north of the Moselle. It is unique in being the smallest place ever to have a dedicated Baedeker edition.
