Southern Bavaria and Tyrol

Baedeker editions covering Southern Bavaria and the Tyrol in German.

Before edition 6, this area was covered in the general Germany edition. The corresponding English editions are called Eastern Alps or Tyrol and the Dolomites, while the area is covered in French by the French editions of Allemagne et Autriche or Allemagne du Sud.

In the full title of some of these editions you will find a reference to Etschland. In case you wonder where that is, Etsch is the German name for the river the Italians know as Adige, and Etschland is also called Südtirol by German-speakers. However, that region is now part of Italy and officially called Alto Adige.
