6000 auction results

27 Feb 2006

We just passed, in a flurry of activity yesterday, the mark of 6,000 successful online auctions recorded here at bdkr.com. There are 6006 recorded sales at the time of writing, resulting from 10,348 auctions started, so the success ratio is back to 58.0% (it had gone up to 58.3% is December, after 5,000 auctions).

The number of auctions recorded continues on an upward path, we now have about 316 per month (last time 297). As we haven't improved on the data collection methods since December, it is now fair to say that there is a noticeable increase in the number of Baedekers coming to market on eBay (and their competitors among online auctioneers).

825 different editions have had at least one successful sale (up from 800 at the 5,000 mark). There are 1030 different editions and versions in the database so only just over 200 without sale records. Generalgouvernment now has taken the lead as most sold edition, with 47 sales (last time 41), followed by Great Britain 7 (1910) with 45 sales (last time sharing the lead with GG at 41). Belgium and Holland 15 (1910) is in third place with 42, followed closely by Italy from the Alps to Naples 2 (1909) on 41 sales. Not much change among the four front-runners, but it is something of a surprise to find United States 4 (1909) in fifth place, with 39 sales.

The total sale price for the 6006 books was €194,505.84, giving an average price of €32.39 (this is on the rise, too, up from €31.95 last time). If all the books had gone for their BDKR guideline price, the total sales would have been €468,165, so the ratio is staying at 41.5% (actually 41.6% last time).

Statistics can be used to prove anything, but I do think it looks like online market activity is picking up!
