One million hits....

12 Nov 2006

First of all, an apology for the lack of updating the site over the last few days. Mrs N. and I took a short autumn break driving around Europe more or less at random, and have only just got back.

Not at random, though, was a visit on Saturday to Bad Bertrich (see Bad Bertrich (1847)), where we met Peter Blokland, a great friend and supporter of the site. That very kind man had driven all the way from the Netherlands just to meet us - and then had to drive back again. It was very nice to meet him for the first time, and also great fun to visit such a famous Baedeker-place! I will write a bit more about this later in the week.

(Just now, I'm just going to tell you a couple of important things, and then get a drink - it's 310 miles driving from the mid-Mosel valley to Calais, plus a bit on this side of the Channel...)

Also, there are quite a few e-mails in my inbox - apologies to those kind correspondents I won't get round to answering today!

There is a very interesting book going on eBay - London 1 (1862). This is quite a rare edition - well worth a look.

One million hits!

While we were away, the site reached one million hits (on Thursday 9th Nov) - after just under 20 months' operation. This is a bit of a milestone in any website's history - and we have some plans for its celebration - but you'll have to wait and see....
