And... 10,000 sales!

27 Mar 2007

We have reached 10,000 successful online auctions in the database! Below are the usual statistics; but I am also preparing some more detailed statistics in preparation for a possible realignment of the BDKR guideline prices. I will revert to this later.

There are 10,012 successful auctions recorded, resulting from 18,328 auctions started, so the success ratio (i.e., auctions resulting in a sale) has fallen for again to 54.6% from 56.0% last time. Again, I am pretty sure this is due to an increased number of "Buy-it-Now" auctions. However, the number of successful auctions per month is up slightly to 313 (from 311 last time), so perhaps a slight increase in activity.

Of the 1030 different editions and variants listed separately on this site, 899 have now occurred in at least one successful sale (after 9000 sales, this number was 891). Of those, 115 have appeared once only. However, three of the editions listed were never issued (D99, D134 and D185), so there are now only 128 editions without a recorded sale.

Generalgouvernement is still the most sold edition (by an increasing margin), with 82 sales (last time 74). Second place is held by Italy from the Alps to Naples 2 (1909), with 68 sales, Great Britain 7 (1910) has 67 and in fourth place we find Belgium and Holland 15 (1910) with 65 (these three latter all had 64 last time). The best-selling French edition is as before Sud-Est de la France 9 (1910), now in 25th position (down from 20th) with 40 sales.

The total sale price for the 10,012 books was €377,298.50, giving an average price of €37.68 (which is down from €38.02 last time - this was expected as last time had an unusual boost). If all the books had gone for their BDKR guideline price, the total sales would have been €834,050, so the ratio is slightly down to 45.2% from the previous 45.6%, again not surprisingly.

The average number of bids per sold book is now slightly down to 5.5 from 5.6 - but that's hardly of statistical significance... nor should you take any of these figures too seriously!
