Sorry for lack of posting...

18 Mar 2009

...my back is fine, thank you all for sending messages of sympathy! No, it's been more the demands of "real work", recently.

But you may be interested to see that the Südbayern 7 (1857) mentioned in the previous post went for €380.88 - after 28 bids... but that was nothing compared to a Palestine et Syrie 2 (1893), which went for a fairly average price after a marathon session of 56 bids! This was partly caused by one bidder (out of 17 total) not quite understanding how eBay works and putting in repeated new maximum bids, rather than just putting in a maximum bid at once and trusting eBay to do the right thing... perhaps a leap of faith too far!

Anyway, 56 bids is a new record for sales registered in our database. The previous record was 52, for a Deutschland 1 (1842), which went for €1120 - perhaps a more likely candidate for a bidding war.
